Best Free eCommerce Platforms & Shopping Cart Solutions

WiX

Wix eCommerce Platform

With over 200 million users worldwide, WiX is the most popular platform for building any type of website. It comes with a drag-and-drop site editor, packed with customization features, hundreds of professionally designed templates, payment processing, and more.

Like Shopify, if you want to extend your website’s capabilities, there’s an App Market that has a solution to practically any challenge you may have. In the App Market, you can find tools for creating forms, live chat, booking, social media, and more.

When starting with Wix, your first step is to design your website using the integrated builder. You can choose the pre-made templates as a starting point and customize texts, images, and more. You can also add a blog and online shop to your website.

Shopify

Shopify

Shopify is a popular online store platform that offers a powerful all-in-one e-commerce solution. With Shopify, you can add an unlimited amount of products via the user-friendly interface. You can literally be up and running in an hour or less.

Choosing Shopify will place you in the company of very large companies like Tesla, Red Bull, Sephora, and more.

Additional features include tons of premium themes designed by professionals. Also, there are many free apps (or plugins) to choose from. The apps will help with marketing, SEO, product customization, social media integration, and shopping cart setup.

For someone who has no experience in web design or online commerce, setting up a Shopify website is a great choice.

Site123

Site123

This ecommerce platform is free to start with and offers a wide variety of features like a website editor, payment processing, SEO tools, and more.

Site123 is a veteran website builder and can provide beginners and experienced developers with a proven platform to start selling from.

Everything about Site123 is very simplistic and user-friendly such as the dashboard and page-building editor. They have a minimalistic approach in design to help users stay on track when building their e-commerce store and not get bogged down with too many technical details.

With this in mind, the learning curve to get up and running is minimal.

nopCommerce

nopCommerce

nopCommerce is an eCommerce platform for any kind of business, small or large, and from any kind of niche. It can be used for selling both physical and digital goods and combines the best features of open-source and commercial software. Plus, it is absolutely free, so the cost of ownership is basically limited to hosting.

nopCommerce offers plenty of features and capabilities to create an online store. It comes packed with all the necessary tools, plus they are always adding new ones.

In our opinion, this platform has a great value-money ratio, so we have provided a more detailed overview of what it has to offer.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce comes as an extension to the most popular blogging platform, WordPress. It is completely free to set up and use. It has hundreds of free and paid WooCommerce extensions, to satisfy all your logistical & technical requirements.

WooCommerce helps you sell anything, anywhere. It’s mobile-friendly and has extended customization options, and the best thing about it is that it’s free. However, unlike all the other eCommerce platforms mentioned in this list, you will probably need a web developer/web designer to create the website for you, as you’ll need some coding knowledge to set it up.

Gumroad

Gumroad is the easiest solution for selling individual products or simple, fuss-free subscriptions/memberships. You can list multiple products on Gumroad and it doesn’t require any coding knowledge at all.

There are no design elements with themes and templates to choose from. It’s very cookie-cutter with little to no customization. Just upload your content images and text and you can be live within minutes.

Even though the setup is free, they require a percentage of sales which is 10%.

  1. I have used Shopify, Magento & woo commerce. I am more comfortable with Woo since self hosted and checkout page customization.

  2. Top 7 eCommerce platforms and you don’t mention Magento?

I personally like PrestaShop – it’s like Shopify but is downloadable, installs on your own hosting account and totally free to use. (You just pay for modules to add high-end features which if you really need them, you’ll be happy to pay for them). You also get fantastic themes for it through stores like Envato Market.
