As web designers we often get frustrated with the UI and UX design of sites we commonly use, with social media sites being right up there as the most annoying! This can lead designers to have a go at redesigning them, albeit unofficially as a personal project just for fun. Sometimes these design concepts are pretty radical, whereas others are so well made we can only wish they were the real deal. Check out this roundup of 30+ unofficial redesigns of Twitter, Facebook & YouTube.

  1. When was this post first published? July or August 2014? Because some of the redesigns for YouTube are what we see now. Someone was talking in the comments about companies looking at unofficial redesigns as unethical practice. Well, I don’t know who is “unethical” here but we clearly see that one part or the other agreed to validate those designs. And both go “Boom, in your face!…”

  5. Isn’t this generally considered bad practice? You’re redesigning something someone else made, and you weren’t there for all the meetings, decisions, user research that led to the designs that are there in the first place.

Been hearing quite a few people in the industry speak out against unsolicited redesigns as an unethical practice.

  7. Twitter is starting to follow the path of MySpace … I remember when MySpace used to be clean and crisp but now it is very heavy in content such as videos and high-res images.

Also mine lags on some older browsers does anyone else have the same problem?

  8. Wow! These are great. I really do feel like Facebook needs an update, it doesn’t feel very contemporary anymore. The twitter redesigns look awesome too. I especially love Estie Carrillo’s. I think anyone of these examples would be an improvement to what we have now.
