Capturing a user’s contact details is high on the agenda of many web businesses these days, with email sign up forms being prominently displayed to visitors as soon as they land on their website. Sometimes these sign up forms require the user to enter their address in order to gain access to a tool or service, while others prompt visitors to join the newsletter to keep up to date with the company’s latest news, especially on “coming soon” pages where it’s important to pique the interest of early adopters. Today’s web design showcase features 20 sites that do a great job of acquiring customer information by prominently displaying a sign up form immediately on the page as the first call to action.

very nice!
This is exactly what I was looking for. There is no need for annoying pop-ups and other clumsy workarounds when a business site is designed around conversions and the sign up form is often the most important element of the conversion process.
